Supporting older, low-income workers in metropolitan Houston

Shell Oil Company donated $75,000 to Senior Service America, Inc. (SSAI) to support the Creating a Pathway to Employment program for low-income, older residents of Houston who are experiencing long-term unemployment.

SSAI and its local partner, Motivation, Education & Training, Inc. (MET), promote personal dignity and self-sufficiency through work. Each year, SSAI and MET provide services to nearly 650 Texans to overcome barriers to employment, land a meaningful job, and stay employed.

“For nearly 60 years, we’ve seen first-hand the power of work to transform not only individuals and their families, but whole communities.” said Gary A. Officer, SSAI President, and CEO. “We are grateful to Shell Oil Company for their continued support as we bring economic opportunity to older job seekers in metropolitan Houston.”

Sponsors like Shell allow SSAI to connect private and public employers with older, low-income job seekers. In 2019, for example,  SSAI and MET hosted the Older Workers 55+ Career Expo at the East Montgomery County Improvement District in New Carey, Texas. This event attracted more than 100 job seekers and prominent local employers such as Weatherford International, Tomball ISD Transportation, Securitas, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
