Economic Endurance, Recovery & Resilience for Older Workers

Our Nation’s older workforce has been hit hard by COVID-19. Our mission, powering economic opportunity for older workers, is more urgent than ever. We are working with private, public, and philanthropic partners to ensure that older job seekers not only survive this period of self-isolation, but have pathways to economic opportunity after the crisis passes.

Our Immediate Response

Low-income, older workers depend upon employment for their most basic needs, including food, medication, and housing. Our immediate goal has been to support the health, safety, and economic well-being of our job seekers.

We thank our incredible network of partners, funders, and employers who have worked with us to ensure that our job seekers could transition to virtual work or additional training.

We are providing immediate support to our partners and job seekers. But we must simultaneously look to the future. COVID-19 has underscored the vulnerability of our Nation’s older population, especially those in low-wage jobs.

Recovery & Resilience in the Next Normal

Our low-income, older workforce will continue to face challenges long after the pandemic passes. SSAI is leading the way to address the post-COVID needs of older workers and their employers:

  • developing economic recovery strategies for low-income, older workers, with a focus on women, job seekers of color, and formerly incarcerated people
  • innovating training approaches that create success in a virtual, work-from-home environment
  • advancing best practices in inclusive hiring and supportive career pathways
